She was a woman of commanding presence, strong and robust: she very much enjoyed the society of friends and was never happier than when with generous hospitality she was entertaining them. Her's ere a patriotic family, her father and both of her brothers served in the Union army and she was an active member of Bosworth Relief Corps. ¹⁸

Elvira married James Washington Plaisted, son of Samuel Pomeroy Plaisted and Sabrina Perkins, on 10 May 1860.¹⁸ (James Washington Plaisted was born on 31 March 1833 in Lancaster, New Hampshire ¹⁸ and died on 14 February 1903 ¹⁸.)
