  General Notes:

He assisted his father in his various employments until he was himself appointed a superintendent of construction and repairs of telegraph lines. Under his superintendence the shore ends of the great cables at Cape Canso were connected with the main lines, a difficult and laborious task of many months. Few men have traveled as many miles by rail, and none were more familiar with the workings, of had a better practical knowledge of the science as then in use. Mr. Plaisted was a sergeant in the Portland Light Infantry, before the war and since has been one of the leaders of the White Coat association, He was Foreman of Dirigo Engine Co. No. 8, in the volunteer Fire Department, served two terms on the Board of Engineers and one term in the City Council; a mark of popular favor, for he was a Democrat and elected from a Republican stronghold. He was one of the founders of the Portland and the New England Associations of Veteran Fireman, he was President of the former and Vice President of the latter. The Machine of the Portland associates bears his name. 18
