He married Hannah Wheelwright of Wells, Maine, great granddaughter of Rev. John Weelwright, Spetember 16, 1712. Rev. Wheelwright was a prominent dissenting minister who left massachusetts Bay on account of disagreements with the Puritan theocracy. During the wedding festivities the Indians, then allied with the French, attacked the settlement, and in the resulting skirmish Elisha was captured, but was soon ransomed by his father for a considerable quantity of trade goods.
